Street Style Is Born at the Bus Stop

Words by Chidi Nwosu5 min read

Stand at Ikeja Along at 7 AM and watch the city dress itself. Office workers in thrifted blazers sharper than any showroom, students flipping uniforms into statements, traders in ankara that could stop traffic and sometimes does.

Lagos street style is not a trend. It is a survival skill with good taste.

The bend-down-select markets are the supply chain. Katangua and Aswani move tonnes of vintage through the city weekly, and the best eyes in Lagos get there before sunrise to pick the pieces stylists will later claim they sourced abroad.

Fashion editors keep flying in to document it, and the city keeps moving too fast for them. By the time a Lagos look lands on a moodboard, the bus stop has already moved on. Keep up or take the picture quickly.
